San Marino rider Manuel Poggiali, former 125cc World Champion in 2001 and 250cc World Champion in 2003 has decided to end his racing career finally withdrawing from the competition' scene.
“As time goes by, life gives us new challenges and new motivations. What I've done as a rider in these past years has been fantastic and it was fun. But now I have other priorities in my life, the first one of which is, undoubtedly, my son's birth due at the beginning of November”, he said in a press release.
“Hence my desire to be close to my family and my loved ones, something that up to now I haven't been able to do in full. I'd like to thank my family and especially my dad as without him I couldn't have achieved any of my goals. A big thank you to all the sponsors that have been supporting me, above all the Mularoni family and Del Conca company. Thanks to all my friends, fans, all the personnel of the various teams I've worked with and the San Marino state. The love I feel for this sport makes me wish to remain in the racing scene perhaps in a different role”.
“Manuel's long-thought decision is courageous and we need to respect it. It is sad for us to lose a Champion like him but at the same time we understand his reasons.
We want to thank him for these past few months and we wish him all the best for both his private and professional future”, commented Campetella Racing team manager Eros Braconi.
Campetella Racing team, sponsors and fans would like to thank Manuel and wish him well for his future challenges, first one of which that of becoming a dad.
